The sector reflects on the renovation of the themes and tendencies of contemporary historiography from the last quarter of the nineteenth century to the present, based on the following thematic areas:

Culture and Society: cultural conflicts; memory; heritage and cultural manifestations; inter-culturalities; religiosities; ethnic and gender identities; immigration, race, and racism; family, gender, and sexuality; intellectual history; social and political thought; literature and history; cultural institutions and cultural organization; the theory of history, historiography and ideas of history.

Economy and Society: economy and circuits of exchanges; market(s); consumption: social and cultural aspects; daily life and work; work and social legislation; migrations; workers and their organizations; work and unemployment; modernity and alternative modernities; imperialism and modernity; globalization, worldization and transnational history; the colonial world and decolonization; history of social and economic thought.

Politics and Society: State, relations of power, and daily life; Nation, nationalism, and national identities; liberalism, conservatism, authoritarianism, revolutionary processes and socialist experiences; social change and political reform; political institutions, representation, and participation; social movement, parties, electoral systems, public policies, democracy, citizenship, and rights; international relations; cultural policies; memory; human rights.
