Sharp Rio

5 – 8 November 2013
Universidade Federal Fluminense

The theme

The Society for the History of Authorship, Reading and Publishing (SHARP) was created in 1991. In its twenty years of existence, SHARP succeeded in interdisciplinary dialogue constitutes a global network of researchers whose works operate with different perspectives. This year's Rio de Janeiro will host the First Regional Sharp in Latin America to be held in November 2013, the Federal Fluminense University. This regional meeting translates thus a convergence of efforts to enlarge the areas of dialogue of the entity and the interest of Brazilian researchers to give greater accessibility to its production and seek greater dialogue with the international scientific community, especially Latin America.

The City of Literature: Readings and Identities in Latin America

The proposal to host the first edition of this event in Latin America implies the recognition of a peculiar configuration with respect to historical forms of production, circulation and reception of literary culture in the continent where the political and cultural issues play a role unequivocal founder. Hence the importance of mentioning the title of the work against the Uruguayan critic Ángel Rama and so honor this intellectual who provided new guidelines to read Latin American literature under a prism plural.
